This Day in Failure: September 10

2007: Argentina suffers the most one-sided loss in Women’s World Cup history, losing to Germany 11-0.

1972: The United States men’s basketball team suffers its first-ever loss in Olympic competition, losing the gold medal game to the Soviet Union, 51-50. The contest ends in controversy, however, as the win comes after the referees order the players to replay the last three seconds, during which time the Soviets score the winning basket.
