2009: Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh reports that President Barack Obama criticized the Constitution and Founding Fathers in his college thesis after an obscure blogger discovers the alleged thesis on a satire Web site. After Limbaugh learns that the piece is satire he continues to insist that the fabricated work is in line with the president’s views.

1989: Twenty-three people die and 130 more are seriously injured in a series of explosions sparked by an ethylene-isobutane gas leak at a Phillips Petroleum Company factory in Pasadena, Texas.

1971: The Kansas State Wildcats allow an NCAA record 711 yards rushing in a 75-28 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners.
