This Day in Failure: November 27

2015: The NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers lose to the Houston Rockets 116-114, setting a new record for the longest losing streak in U.S. professional sports history (27 games). The old record? Held by the 2013-14 76ers and the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1976-77).

2010: The Denver Broncos and head coach Josh McDaniels are fined $50,000 each by the NFL after a team employee (director of video operations Steve Scarnecchia), violates the league’s “integrity of the game” policy by videotaping a San Francisco 49ers practice. Scarnecchia also worked with McDaniels for the New England Patriots when the Patriots were found to have videotaped New York Jets coaches sending in signals during a game between the two teams. As a result, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stripped New England of its first-round pick in the 2008 draft. He also fined the Patriots $250,000 and Patriots coach Bill Belichick $500,000.

1997: Kathleen Caronna, 33, is seriously injured when a Cat in the Hat balloon knocks part of a lamppost onto her head during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City. Then in October 2006 a small plane operated by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle crashes through the wall of her high rise apartment just minutes before she arrives home.
