This Day in Failure: November 11

2008: Michel Lapointe (aka Big Mike), 37, is released from Montreal’s Bordeaux Jail (after serving 25 months for conspiracy, drug trafficking and gangsterism), because prison facilities are unable to accommodate his 430-pound frame. The Quebec Parole Board claims its award of an early release is based on Lapointe’s health, along with factors such as good behavior and the support of his wife and mother. At the time of his arrest in 2006, Lapointe weighed 375 pounds.

1981: The NHL’s Winnipeg Jets allow eight goals in the second period of a 15-2 loss to the Minnesota North Stars.
