2000: A commuter plane carrying 17 passengers home from Atlantic City, New Jersey, crashes near the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Pennsylvania) airport after experiencing engine trouble. All 19 people aboard are killed.

1947: Joe DiMaggio and five of his N.Y. Yankees teammates are fined $100 for not fulfilling contractually-mandated promotional duties.
