2020: “We’re doing very well and we’re doing a fantastic job with respect to [coronavirus].”
--U.S. president Donald Trump, just weeks before the United States surpasses China as the country with the most COVID-19 cases in the world.

2020: At least ten people are killed when the Xinjia Express Hotel (in the city of Quanzhou, Fujian province, southeastern China) collapses. At the time of the collapse the hotel was being used as a coronavirus quarantine center, isolating people who had been in close contact with coronavirus patients.

1809: Jean-Pierre Blanchard dies in Paris from injuries sustained after falling while demonstrating a hot air balloon in the Netherlands. Blanchard, along with American John Jeffries, had previously made the first successful balloon crossing of the English Channel.
