2009: A lighting failure at Rangers Ballpark causes a major league baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers to be delayed for an hour and 41 minutes. One of the stadium’s eight light standards remains dark through the first five innings, leading the umpires to suspend play. The Dodgers go on to win the game 3-1.

2007: Washington Redskins rookie safety LaRon Landry—the sixth overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft—takes a paintball shot in the groin during a team-building outing, leaving him unable to practice when the team opens its minicamp two days later.

1991: In the first round of the U.S. Open at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, 27-year-old spectator William John Fadell is struck and killed by lightning as he stands under a tree during a rain delay.
