2004: Tucson High’s Joe Kay is trampled by classmates after scoring the final basket in a 62-54 win over Salpointe Catholic. Kay, who was set to attend Stanford University on a volleyball scholarship, suffers a broken jaw and torn cartoid artery, which leads to a stroke.

1985: Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer and inventor of the Apple II, resigns from the company he helped create. Wozniak objected to the company’s business strategy and wanted to extricate himself from Apple’s infamous corporate politics.

1958: Eight members of the Manchester United football squad are among 23 people killed when the team’s plane crashes upon takeoff from Munich, Germany.
