2013: The Champion Baptist College men’s basketball team allows the Div. I Southern University Jaguars to score the first 44 points of a game between the two teams, setting a new all-divisions record for most points allowed before scoring. Champion, an independent member of the Association of Christian Colleges from Hot Springs, Arkansas, goes on to lose 116-12.

1903: A fire in Chicago’s “absolutely fireproof” Iroquois Theatre kills upwards of 600 people. Public outrage over the incident leads to new theater safety codes in the U.S.
