NJ Nets set record for most consecutive losses to start a season

On Wednesday night the New Jersey Nets (0-18) lost to the Dallas Mavericks 117-101, setting a new NBA record for most consecutive losses to start a season. The Nets had been tied with the 1988-89 Miami Heat and 1999 Los Angeles Clippers, who both dropped their first 17 games.
Wednesday night’s contest wasn’t as close as the score might indicate. The Mavericks shot 71 percent in the first quarter and 89.5 percent in the second en route to a 77-50 halftime lead. By shooting 81 percent in the first half, the Mavs became the first NBA team to make 80 percent of its shots in a half since the Denver Nuggets hit 82 percent against the Clippers on April 4, 2006.
New Jersey’s next chance to end the streak comes Friday at home against the Charlotte Bobcats (7-10, 1-7 on the road). Coincidentally, the Nets’ last victory came against the Bobcats at the Meadowlands on April 13, 2009.
After taking on the Bobcats, the Nets play the New York Knicks on Sunday Dec. 6 at Madison Square Garden, and then visit Chicago on Tuesday Dec. 8.
