November 30, 2009 — On Sunday night the New Jersey Nets lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 106-87, tying the NBA record for most consecutive losses to begin a season. The Nets joined the Miami Heat (1988-89) and the Los Angeles Clippers (1999) as the only NBA teams to start 0-17.
New Jersey’s next chance to get a win will come on Wednesday Dec. 2 at home against the Dallas Mavericks (12-5, 7-3 on the road, first place in the Southwest division).
On Dec. 4 the Nets have a home game against the Charlotte Bobcats (7-9, 1-7 on the road), followed by a meeting with the New York Knicks (3-14) at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 6.
New Jersey fired head coach Lawrence Frank prior to the Lakers game. Frank was in the final year of a $4 million per year contract.
