February 16, 2015 -- Sun News Network, the dim-witted, right-wing Canadian news network sometimes referred to as Fox News North, went dark this past Friday morning.

"This is an unfortunate outcome; shutting down Sun News was certainly not our goal," said Julie Tremblay, President and CEO of Media Group and Sun Media Corporation in a release last Friday. "Over the past four years, we tried everything we could to achieve sufficient market penetration to generate the profits needed to operate a national news channel."

The station launched in 2011 promising hard news and straight talk, but mostly featured provocative and opinionated personalities like Ezra Levant, and had much in common with right-wing talk radio.

The failure of Sun News perhaps demonstrates that ignorance and intolerance doesn't play as well in Canada as it does in the U.S. Now if only Fox News South would go dark.
