Last Sunday New York Jets rookie QB Mark Sanchez was caught by television cameras discreetly trying to eat a hot dog on the sidelines during his team’s 38-0 win over the lowly Oakland Raiders.
Hoping to make up for that bit of poor taste, Sanchez has agreed to donate 500 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers (along with buns and rolls) to the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, New Jersey.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan apparently approves of Sanchez’s new food plan, but laments that even in the wake of a blowout win, all the focus has been on his quarterback’s wiener.
“It is unfortunate that we [had] a great game, ran for 300-some yards ... got a shutout, and [all] the focus is on the hot dog,” Ryan said. “[But] I think Mark is doing the right thing with the plans that he has.”
