April 30, 2016 - Kalan Reed became Mr. Irrelevant 2016 when he was selected 253rd overall in the NFL draft today, making the leap from Southern Mississippi to the Tennessee Titans.
As the last pick of the draft, Reed will be invited to participate in the annual Irrelevant Week festivities (June 3-5, 2016).
The Titans acquired the pick via a trade with the Denver Broncos. Naturally, Irrelevant Week representatives—including Irrelevant Week CEO Melanie Fitch—couldn't have anticipated the trade. (Until this year teams were not even permitted to trade compensatory picks.) So Fitch & Co. went to the podium with a Broncos jersey, bringing along a Titans helmet for good measure.
The Broncos traded a 2016 fifth-round pick as well as the Mr. Irrelevant pick to the Titans in exchange for Tennessee's 2016 sixth-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick.
