Funeral slide show leads to child porn charge

The funeral director expected the thumb drive to contain photos of the deceased. Instead it contained child porn.

May 10, 2011 --  When Josue Rivera handed off a thumb drive to Edgar Rodriguez at the Luz de Paz Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the funeral director expected it would contain a slide show of photos—photos of a deceased person to be played at a funeral.

Instead the drive contained numerous photos of child pornography, including a picture of one young girl who police said appears to be Rivera’s niece.

Rivera, 38, of Orchard Street in Bridgeport, was arrested this morning and charged with first-degree possession of child pornography. He is currently being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Police report having seized a computer from Rivera’s home, which police detective David DeFeo says contains 153 files of suspected child pornography, including three videos. According to DeFeo, the Child Recognition and Identification System identified thirty-five children are in the photos and videos.

Rivera’s arrest was made by members of the U.S. Marshal Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force.

He is a nationally-known comic book illustrator, who illustrates for DC Comics under the name Justiniano.
