Last night Rich Ellerson led Army to a 27-14 win over Eastern Michigan in his head coaching debut with the Black Knights, taking the first step towards erasing 12 years of failure at West Point. In the 12 seasons prior to Ellerson’s hiring, Army posted a record of 30-108, including seven straight losses to Navy.
But against Eastern Michigan the Black Knights rushed for 300 yards, an early indication that Ellerson did the right thing in choosing to return Army to a triple option offense.
Today the Black Knights are 1-0 for the first time since 1996, which incidentally, is the last time Army posted a winning record (10-2 under Bob Sutton).
On Saturday September 12 Army opens its home schedule against Duke at Michie Stadium.
