Last September Zdenka Kopeckova, 66, had gynecological surgery at a clinic in Ivancice, a town in the southeastern part of the Czech Republic. Earlier this month, clinic doctors finally figured out why she was still in pain five months after-the-fact: Her surgeons left a foot-long spatula-like medical tool inside her abdomen.
Clinic head Jaromir Hrubes blames the mistake on “a series of individual failures,” and claims four clinic employees have already been punished. Kopeckova has reportedly received an apology, and been told she will receive compensation from the operators of the clinic.
CT24 news television reports that Kopeckova plans to sue.
