Former DMV number now a phone sex hotline

"Baby, don’t stop!" That’s the message New York drivers are getting when they call 1-800-DIAL-DMV, the New York State DMV’s former 1-800 phone number.

Baby, don’t stop! That’s the message New York drivers are getting when they call 1-800-DIAL-DMV, the New York State DMV’s former 1-800 phone number.

In February 2009, budget cuts forced the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to eliminate the 1-800 telephone numbers used for contacting DMV call centers. But 1-800-DIAL-DMV was subsequently reassigned to a phone sex company, and dialing those digits now takes callers to a sex hotline, offering recorded “intimate encounters” for $1.99 a minute and live sessions for $3.99 a minute.

Unfortunately for the NYS DMV, countless brochures are still in circulation and on display at branch offices all over the state, and the phone number is still listed on many Web sites.

The DMV “went through measures to ensure the publications were updated to reflect the correct [phone] number,” says DMV spokesperson Ken Brown, but admits that an unknown number of the publications are still in stock, in part because “notification was not properly given to employees.”
